Poem of the Week

Once

October 11, 2010

Once He stood tall on cold tarmac,
hot sands and green grass fields.
Once He flew high above the earth
Once He heard the roar of Artillery guns

Once He tested new equipment,
G-suits, new plane designs,
plans, strategies
and human endurance.

Once He trained
long hours in the field
Once He flew
long hours fix and rotor wings

Once He was posted to
foreign shores and southern neighbours
to train other because Canadian Soldiers
are recognized among the very best

Once He served with
United Nation troops
under fire on the Golan Heights
watching over an uneasy peace

How on Remembrance Day
in a faded blue beret
He stands with effort
Pride and Honour etched on his face

Once He was an airman
Once He was a soldier
Now he is a veteran
Now he receives will deserved thanks

He has always been my Dad.
