Poem of the Week

The Wait

June 21, 2010

The wait began as the
plane engines fired up with
a thunderous roar.
Vibrations felt from toe to head.
9 months left to wait,
wait for calls,
wait for leave,
wait for e-mails
wait for word.

Your tour now at
the count down end
the wait is not over.
The safety net not yet spread
until you are all
on native land.

Safe is not safe
until I know
you are home
until we can
reach out
and touch.

The wait.
I hate the wait
I hate that
other parents,
wives
and husbands,
daughters
and sons,
brothers
and sisters
family
and friends,
are all holding on
in the wait
wondering,
imagining,
fearing,
how would I survive
without them
Tears don’t change
reality
as we all sit
and wait
and cry
for everyone’s pain.
